Review

5 ‘Gavin Blake, I miss you already’ StarsWarning: minor spoilers + major swooning over ‘Mr. Tall, Dark, and F*ckable Handsome’Magnificent!!!! I’m still trying to overcome all the different feelings that this amazing story evoked in me. After ‘Collide’, I expected another intense, deeply emotional reading, what I didn’t expect was to not be able to keep up with the torrent of emotions this book provoked in me while reading it! I think ‘emotional roller-coaster’ might be an understatement to describe the phenomenal reading experience that is 'Pulse'.After the events that led to that painful ending of ‘Collide’, ‘Gavin’ and ‘Emily’ are both really hurt, Emily has finally left 'Dillon', but of course that the he doesn’t let her go that easily, which leads to a really painful and emotional scene (around 5% I was shedding my first tear). While 'Gavin' is away, 'Emily' is heartbroken, feeling numb and starting to lose hope, the thing is, she’s really strong in this book, she’s a fighter, and one of the things that I really liked is that she doesn’t sit around and wait, she goes after Gavin, and that was refreshing. So, she finds him (cue the angst) but their reunion is really difficult and distressing. But, when we are least expecting, all the awesomeness that is ‘Gavin Blake’ reappears (cue the stupid grin on my face) and that leads to some of the hottest scenes I’ve ever read (cue the panty-melting)All the characters are great, I love 'Emily', 'Olivia' is hilarious but, I’d like to take this moment to share that, after experiencing the ‘shmexy’/‘king of swoon’ that is ‘Gavin Blake’, for the second time …When I look at you, I feel like I’m looking at the other half of myself. You’ve filled the empty space in my soul, and because of that, you’re a Goddess to me. That’s the way I’m always going to treat you. For the rest of your life. I promise you that. (cue the butterflies) I owed you a bottle cap since the last few times I drank, I forgot to give you one. I’m sorry. (cue the warm fuzzies) You know I’m inhaling every inch of your body after everyone goes to sleep, right? (cue the panty dropping)And I could go on and on and on, Oh Dear......I Know that he will ruin a lot of male characters for me, that's for sure! Gavin is sublime!I have to say that the way the author develops the relationship between 'Gavin and Emily' in this book is absolutely brilliant. I would also like to acknowledge the way the author portraits the impact of Emily’s background and also the abusive relationship with 'Dillon' and how that affects her and the relationship with 'Gavin', it’s a really sensitive and flawless approach. At first, their reunion is not easy, there’s a lot of insecurities but, considering all they’ve been through that makes perfect sense, on top of that, they also have to deal with the ‘Deputy Dillhole’ so there’s a lot of uncertainty on their path. But the chemistry and sexy/playful banter between the two of them is still amazing and there are a lot of heart-warming momentsWe were written for one another, and I wouldn't change one line in our romance novel. The good, the bad, the in between. It's ours. We own it.'Emily and Gavin' face a lot of complications and challenges but, it’s a beautiful journey, ‘Pulse’ is an extraordinary conclusion to this story - enthralling, surprising, passionate, heart-mending, highly emotional …it’s all you can ask for and more! Beautiful story, excellent writing, a remarkable debut - I’m really looking forward to read more from Gail McHugh! Our past is imperfect but our future’s breathtaking.
